Planning Permission may be needed

  If the shape of the roof at the front of the house or at the side if you have a corner plot is altered. This includes adding dormer windows.

  If your house has an extension already, you may have used up all your permitted development rights in which case all modifications to roof shape (whether to front, side or back) will need planning permission.

  If your house is listed or if it is in a conservation area, you will require permission even to put rooflights in - they may insist on dormers instead of rooflights.
